Nour Afifi

MFA in Costume Design at the University of Washington, Seattle

She earned her bachelor’s degree in History from the American University in Cairo, where she developed a deep appreciation for the ways clothing reflects identity, era, and social context. Following her graduation, Nour worked across multiple film and television productions in Cairo, gaining experience in various roles within the costume department. She also became actively involved in Cairo’s independent theater scene, where she explored more experimental and collaborative forms of storytelling.

Currently, Nour is pursuing her MFA in Costume Design at the University of Washington, where she continues to refine her artistic voice and research-driven approach. Her work often focuses on the intersection of history, identity, and performance, with a particular interest in how costumes can deepen character and transform the audience’s experience.

“Actors read a script for their character’s arc; costume designers read it to put everyone else in context — we hold the whole world of the play.”
