Moumita Bhattacharya
Director, Choreographer, and Storyteller. Seattle WA
Moumita Bhattacharya is a Seattle-based director, choreographer, and storyteller whose work blends South Asian classical dance with contemporary theater. A long-time leader with Pratidhwani, Seattle’s premier South Asian performing arts organization, Moumita has directed and produced large-scale musicals, dance-dramas, and ensemble pieces that highlight diverse voices and culturally rich narratives.
Trained in classical Indian dance, Moumita brings movement, visual storytelling, and emotional precision to her productions. Her acclaimed adaptation of Devi reimagined a historic Bengali heroine through modern perspectives on agency and empowerment, and her recent work includes co-directing House of Joy at Seattle Public Theater.
With an MBA and professional background in product development, she combines artistic vision with organizational leadership — building community, mentoring emerging artists, and championing representation on Seattle stages. Moumita’s work centers on translating South Asian stories for global audiences while honoring the traditions that shaped them.
She joins Curtains Up! A Historical Perspective on Drama to share her insights on storytelling, cultural translation, and the power of theater to create belonging.
